I have been using this projector exclusively as a TV replacement for a year. It still works like new. The only issues I have are that the firmware (according to forums) can only be updated manually. Also, the ps4 does not recognize the projector as 3d capable. My chromecast also only shows 4k non hdr or 1080 hdr. I thought this was 4k and HDR at the same time? Not sure really. Web site won't let me select four stars but that is my rating for this projector.

I've had this projector since 2022-12-17 and have gotten to know it pretty well now. It's excellent in most ways, as you can probably tell from other reviews. I'll just point out a few quirks.

This projector is designed to sit on a tabletop. There is a cutoff shield in the lens assembly covering about half of the lens that stops any light output from below the flat horizon, so all of the useful image projects forward and upward with no light going downward from the lens. Ideally this means it should be on a table in the middle of your viewing room, with the table height about the same height as the bottom of your screen. Most other projectors I've used don't have a cutoff, and project both above and below the flat horizon, so they need to be mounted higher than the bottom of the screen. Of course with a good optical vertical keystone adjustment this wouldn't matter too much.

Keystone adjustment is all done by image rescaling, there is no optical keystone adjustment. If you mount it off-axis in either horizontal or vertical dimension, in a dark room you'll still see the light bleed from the original projection footprint after adjusting the image. In my setup, about 10 degrees off horizontal center, the auto keystone doesn't work, the resulting image is diagonally twisted and just unusable. Manual keystone works fine, but sacrifices some pixels.

Sometimes after shutoff and wakeup again, its HDR decoder flakes out. (This is when you do a "power off" which is actually only standby, not true shutdown.) Then watching an HDR video will have red and green palette inverted. It requires a reboot to fix this. Never seem to have a problem with regular content.

It turns out that Kodi works well installed on the projector itself. I was using two tvboxes, a Beelink GT-King and an H96 Max V58 plugged into the two HDMI inputs, but the image quality from the same video is far superior when played natively by the projector itself than from either of the two tvboxes. I haven't figured out why it's so different or if there's any brightness/contrast settings I can tweak to make the tvboxes look as good as the native.

Currently I feed all the audio to an outboard 5.1 Dolby/DTS decoder. This decoder only supports HDMI 2.0/ARC, and it doesn't see the audio from the projector's eARC so I've had to get a separate eARC extractor as well. This bit can be a bit flaky, the eARC signal doesn't always work and a reboot is occasionally needed there. Not sure if that's the projector's fault or the extractor's.

All in all I think you'd be hard pressed to find as capable and high quality a projector anywhere else at anything close to this price. I've certainly looked.

I can see very clear picture even in the day time.

Pros: Amazing picture quality, bright as the sun compare to the competition, all most silent fan. Cons: basic menu, best use an external media player/streamer. Internal speakers dont sound robust as the competition

I’ve had this projector for months now and I love it. Having a 20ft screen in my apartment is insane lol. Luckily my apartment had very high ceilings and is just made for a big screen experience. You won’t be disappointed especially for this price. Only complaints is the lag in video games but other than that it’s amazing. I didn’t buy it for video games so I don’t mind.

It is an excellent unit, but it needs some distance from a wall or screen to display 80 inches or more. Unfortunately, my room didn't have the correct dimensions for this type of projector, so I had to return it.

I was coming from Epson with 1200x1900 resolution projector. What is better about the Epson is the optical zoom lens and the optical keystone. This is because in my living room, I like to have the projector to the side and the Epson gives me really good control.

I tried the Dangbei and Epson A/B on the same wall. The result was I decided the Dangbei was barely better than the Epson; they are both 3000+ ANSI. So I thought I’d send the Dangbei back.

Then I tried it upstairs in another room where I have a 100” screen. This allowed me also to project directly at about 10 ft, 2 1/2 feet off the ground, where there is no image manipulation. This really brought out the magic. On a screen with no manipulation it looks like a giant LED.

So, I didn’t return it. The next best thing is that the projector is very quiet. The sound is decent enough to not bother with external sound system. So, all in all, very nice of you are able to set it up it properly.

These guys would do better to incorporate a physical zoom lens which would allow for better use of full resolution instead of sacrificing it to scale and keystone the image.

It does autofocus every power up, to ensure the best image quality. It’s not a drawback. The few inbuilt features like the browser, are better than not having them at all. Useful in a pinch.

Recommend Firestick 4K Max to deliver best 4K potential.

Final statement: The image is very clear and that makes it easier to see what is presented to you. Less strain to see things.

Just receive it and sharing my initial thoughts. Coming from LG cinebeam, using this projector seems a big leap in terms of picture quality, picture options, auto focus etc. A drawback I found is zoom is very limited and even with 10 feet throw distance, I could barely project a 100 inch image. Based on info given, it should have been a bigger image. Overall, this seems a good find. I will try to share further views after spending more time with it.

3/11 - bad- seems to lose focus even when in same position and is operating. Have to run auto focus to reset which fixes. This is annoying. Good- Very quiet, I do not hear the fan. Eye safety feature works and seems helpful. Black levels good, shines in a dark room.

3/15 - upgrading to 5 stars. For best focus, after auto focus step, press ok for fine tuning. Picture is super sharp. Auto keystone works well too.

3/21 - I am enjoying watching this. sharp and bright images. go for it, you will not repent.

3/22 - Agree with another review. using with firestick max, really helps it shine. smooth interface.

It is really worth the price. I am super satisfied with the image quality of this projector. But I’m still figuring out about it's operating system.

Dangbei's email Customer Support is FAST and RESPONSIVE. Every single time, I got a helpful response back within 5 hours when emailing them in the evening. I live in Tucson Arizona USA GMT-7. Being a Chinese base company, I was initially concerned about getting support, but after their helpful team's firsthand help. I am confident and satisfied with Dangbei and their amazing Mars projector.

I will try to keep this short and to the point. I just purchased this projector a few weeks ago and here is what I can say: it is very bright, has vibrant colors, raised black levels(like a very dark gray), and 3D is a little misleading. First I will note it is very important that once you get your source hooked up to the projector, start watching something and go into the settings, inputs, select hdmi1 or 2, and choose EDID 2.1. When left in auto it would not switch correctly on its own. Otherwise you will only get BT.709 color space and lose out. Next is the black levels which are pretty raised. You want to look for a screen which will help black levels and contrast, probably a negative gain screen. I'm currently looking into a diy solution. Lastly is the 3d. This projector does not support bluray 3d, only 3d files from an external drive, or 3d on YouTube etc. It also requires active 3d glasses. For the money it's still a great choice, just know what your buying and know it's limitations

This machine brings TV to life!! It works perfect and I was able to figure out how to adjust the picture to work exactly to fit my screen from behind our couch. Love it!!

Easy to get working and setup.

I want to say I have a JVCNX5 in my dedicated Home Theater,I bought this to project outside, and in my Living Room. The Picture looks great. The blacks aren’t anywhere close to the JVC but you’re talking about a $5000 price difference. I love it. I will be keeping it. As others have said, you definitely want to pair this with an Nvidia shield or an Apple TV 4K, or Amazon device

This is my first product review but I have been very pleased with my purchase. I have never owned a projector and I had heard they were not as bright as televisions. I brought the Dangbei Mars Pro 4K projector after much research. I am here to tell you that this projector is as bright as a tv. It is easy to operate and has a really good set of stereo speakers. The projector is well made and feel very substantial (you know it is quality when you take it out the box). I have been well pleased with mines and I would advice anyone in the market for a projector during the holidays to consider the Dangbei Mars Pro 4K projector. Presently, the company offers a free Android dongle. I missed this offer but contacted the company and they agree to send one to me after purchase. There are not many companies that would do that. It appears that both the product and customer service is of the highest quality.

Brought this for its brightness because I need to project to a wall 15 feet away in a room cannot be completely blacked out. Works great. Good picture quality and decent brightness at 170 inch size.

None of the “smart” features work out of the box, which I knew before the purchase, thanks to other reviewers. I paired it with an Apple TV 4K, which sends signal to a home theater system. The projector receives HDMI signal relayed by the home theater. This bypassed the problem with relaying Dolby Atmos through the projector. It is a great projector for the money if you don’t need any smart features.

Few tips about setting up the projector:

If 4k picture goes blank randomly but lower resolution picture works, chances are you need a better HDMI cable. I run a 50 feet optical HDMI cable between the Apple TV and the projector. Tried several passive conductor HDMI cables. None of them work reliably with 4k.

The four small feet under the projector are actually screws. Talking them off will give you four more mounting points in addition to the center screw hole.

I've owned several projectors over the years and while they keep getting a little bit better this one is a leap. The brightness is amazing, the short throw distance is awesome, the form factor is nice and it's very quiet. I was able take a smallish bedroom with maybe 14' length and nearly painted the wall from ceiling to floor. My old projector is a good brand but it doesn't come even close to this one. The only thing I wish is that it could push 4k@120htz. I know that's asking a lot. If you run a full HDMI 2.1 through it you're still going to be stuck at 60htz which is still absolutely gorgeous and pretty much the standard still. I just had to find something, and their customer service is spot on by the way. I will probably buy a few of these to work on local professional productions we're doing over here so great product guys 👍

4K quality is excellent and the HDR on the projector is is top notch. Its viewable during daytime as long as you have a dark room. Remember, the black is only as black as the wall it is projecting on (although your brain will adjust for the contrast and make it appear blacker than it actually is)

Nice Projector, it has all the bells and whistles for a budget priced laser projector, 4K, and great colors. I highly recommend trying it out. Very bright and easy to use menu.

Very good projector

Dengbei is not a known company, in fact, it's hard to find Dengbei codes to program your firestick remote. However, what it lacks in notoriety it makes up in picture quality and brightness. You can watch this projector during the day even if you have a skylight in the room...it's that bright! I have no idea about the sound quality of the built-in speakers. I have a firestick plugged into my anthem mrx-1120 receiver. As far as picture quality, you cannot find better for under $2000.
