Tips on how to choose a home theater projector--Zoom

by Chelsea . on February 14, 2022

Zoom refers to the function of changing the size of the projector screen, which is divided into optical zoom and digital zoom.

Optical zoom: The function of adjusting the size of the picture by changing the position of the lens inside the projector, that is, by adjusting the zoom ring of the projector to zoom the picture, will not affect the quality of the projected picture.

Digital zoom: When the projector is a fixed-focus lens, it cannot be zoomed by adjusting the lens position, so the digital zoom function is available. Digital zoom is analog zoom through the processing chip inside the projector or through an algorithm. It can reduce the display range according to a certain proportion, but it can only reduce the picture and cannot enlarge it beyond the original picture. The digital zoom function will affect the resolution of the picture, which may cause the picture to be unclear.

What are the pros and cons of the zoom function?

Optical zoom:

Pro:Better adapt to different spaces; project a larger picture in a short distance without damaging the picture quality.

Con:High cost, high noise, high volume.

Digital zoom:

Pro:Low cost, small size, low noise.

Con:Damages the picture quality, only shrinks the picture, and leaves dark shadows around the picture.
